Effects of Waves • Waves play an important part in the creation and destruction of coast lines • Small rolling waves carry particle that are deposited on shore lines, and over centuries can create new land mass such as larger shores, sandbanks and shallower water
Big Waves • Big waves or ocean swells however cause destruction of coastal lines, eroding the land mass; slowly chipping away at the coast. • The stronger the wind, the bigger the swells • The waves do the most damage at the shore because of shallow drag, causing the top of the wave to keep moving while the bottom slows down, causing it to crash into shore • This ultimately changes to land formation and side, causing reduced shored, smaller and more rigid cliffs, and even loss of land.
