  1. Objective: Students will view the following images relating to The Jim Crow Era in order to develop understanding of the social context of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird Gallery Walk

  2. Quickwrite • Can images convey a message? Can photos convey a message? What are the strengths and limitations of images in conveying a message? What can a photo do that words can’t? What can words do that a photo can’t?

  3. Assignment: • After each photo complete the graphic organizer • Be sure to include an observation, a reflection and a question for each image. • Is it ok to be angered or confused by these images, some are graphic and disturbing, but all are actual images from a bygone era in American history and serve to set the context of the novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
