DC Strategies • By Arbor Day 2008 develop an urban tree canopy goal • Develop unifying policies legislation for the preservation and expansion of trees City departments will develop and institute standard operating procedures protecting and planting trees and installing LID in public space • Work with neighborhood and community groups to identify additional areas where the Tree and Slope Protection (TSP) Overlay zone should be mapped. Special attention to protect riparian zones, areas with significant tree cover, and lands east of the Anacostia.

Draft Stormwater Language • In order to reduce pollution in developed areas and allow for development while preserving water quality, by 2008, each jurisdiction will investigate the feasibility of requiring no net increase in stormwater from new construction and redevelopment sites. • In jurisdictions in which this goal is determined to be feasible, by 2009, those jurisdictions will implement regulations that require construction permits to address how the project will conform to pre-construction hydrology after construction by prioritizing green infrastructure BMP's-- especially tree conservation, tree planting, green roofs, and raingardens/bioretention areas, on new development and re-development. Conservation and other natural BMPs will be used to mimic pre-construction hydrology while being protective of the public and the environment."
