NPP CrIS SDR Product Chronology FuzhognWeng, SDR Chair
Major CalVal Activities and Events since CrIS Powered up (in time order) • EOC activities and initial data assessment, January 18 to 31 • Instrument activation and optimization • On Jan. 20, teamstarted receiving GRAVITE IDPS science RDR data; but no valid SDR product • Data quality and instrument performance assessment • UW/UMBC CCAST first radiance images and spectra indicated that the problem causing invalid IDPS SDR data was in the IDPS processing software (Jan. 25) • Team daily team tag-up meetings: Exelis EOC activity briefing and issue discussions • Weekly telecon meetings: 6 presentations on in-orbit RDR data quality assessments • Engineering packet v32 uploaded on Jan. 31
Major CalVal Activities and Events (Cont.) • Code bug fix, data assessment and CalVal data preparation, February 1 to 29 • Instrument activation and optimization (ended on Feb. 10) • SDR code bugs (2 geolocation and 1 ICT temperature bugs) were found and fixed in ADL; code patches #1 and #2 were sent to the team and Raytheon on Feb. 1 • Code problems in FCE detection/correction module were detected; code patch #4 to turn off FCE detection/correction was sent to the team and Raytheon on Feb. 6 • The problem of incorrectly handling the EngPk order in the ADL code was found and fixed on Feb. 18. The fix is crucial to the CalVal work. • On Feb. 20, AERB approved patches #1 - #4 • The team completed inter-comparisons between G-ADA and ADLs on Feb. 22 and decided to use ADL and G-ADA SDRs in the CalVal work in the absence of IDPS SDRs • On Feb. 22 & Feb 23, collected about 21 hours of full spectral resolution RDR data • On Feb. 28, the team generated G-ADA CrIS SDRs for Feb. 24, 25 & 26 as golden days • Daily tag-up meetings and weekly telecon meetings: 24 presentations
Major CalVal Activities and Events (Cont.) • Calibration coefficient refinement and CalVal activities, March 1 to April 3 • Refinement and validation of non-linearity coefficients (a2s), ILS parameters and ICT emissivity table • Team reached consensus on the set of values on March 27 • The new a2s, LW and MW ILS parameters and ICT emissivity are included in Engineering packet v33, ready for upload • FOR-to-FOR striping problem and its fix • The wavenumber and scene dependent striping was reported to the team on March 14 • By March 28, the root cause was discovered and solution to fix the problem was proposed and tested • RDR/SDR data assessment and analysis • Data assessment revealing a number of data issues • Inter-satellite comparisons and RTM vs observation comparisons, • ICT model analysis • G-ADA/ADL and IDPS test data comparisons • March 24 spacecraft anomaly impact assessment • On April 2, IDPS Mx5.3 became operational • Weekly telecon meetings: 27 Presentations
SDR Product: current status and schedule for Beta, Provisional and Validated SDR • Status • IDPS started producing CrIS SDRs on April 2 (Mx-5.3 build) • The results shown in this review meeting are valid to the Mx-5.3 product • EngPk v33 and the new FIR digital filter will significantly improve SDR accuracy • Code issues: FCE detection and correction module is turned off; data quality flag values are incorrectly set in some cases • Beta product • Mx-5.3 SDRs, being reviewed in this meeting • Provisional product • Review date: 7/15/2012 • IDPS date: 9/3/2012 • Validated product • Review date: 11/1/2012 • IDPS date: 12/17/2012 • Engineering packet version 34 • Team review date: TBD
