Structured Brainstorming • Creative vs. Logical • Consensus building by sorting cards • Useful when gathering input and there are large number of ideas and opinions • Useful for students in looking at topics known to them that must be organized around a specific concept.
Step 1 - Brainstorm • Follow guidelines for brainstorming. • Record one idea per note (stickies). • Be creative, think big, look at all areas. • Write legibly.
Step 2 – Post on Chart Paper • No talking. • Post anywhere. • Read and review what’s posted.
Step 3 - Sort • Sort into related groups or categories. • Gut reaction – rapid process. • All participants jump in. • If disagreement occurs about which category to place a note in, create another note and place one in each category.
Step 4 – Develop Headers • Be concise. • Swhould represent complete thought. • Should make sense standing alone. • Should have consensus of group.
Step 5 – Report outfrom all groups. • Preview all group headings and related topics. • Find common ground.
Early Intervention • What needs to happen to ensure early identification and diagnosis of ASD/PDD? • What needs to happen to provide quality early intervention for all those diagnosed with ASD/PDD?
Coordination of Education andTreatment • What needs to happen to ensure services are coordinated and non-duplicative to serve individuals with ASD/PDD across settings?
Transition • What needs to happen with state government to ensure youth with ASD/PDD achieve successful community living, employment, health, and post-secondary education and training outcomes?
Adult Years • What needs to happen to ensure that adults with autism across the spectrum receive care and support to live and contribute to their communities?
For Today • What needs to happen so that all newly-diagnosed children with ASD/PDD receive quality early intervention? • What needs to happen in order for for all young children diagnosed with ASD/PDD to access healthcare?
