  3. Inference Definition • What is an inference? • An inference is made when a reader uses prior knowledge to understand textual clues in order to draw conclusions about the author’s implied message / purpose.

  4. 12 Types of Inference • Review the 12 Types of Inference handout – look at back of sheet • Think of the inferences you made about your teacher and neighbor, what type of inferences did you make? Complete the backside of the handout.
