Location of sample sites Soil samples were taken from field sites located on the Harney River, in Everglades National Pak, Fl. The two sites are roughly 300 m apart
Mangrove soil (soil #1) Mangrove forest. Mostly red mangroves, mixed with both black and white mangroves. Used a Russian D-corer (sediment borer) to collect soil samples.

Soil properties and Interpretations • low infiltration rate, low hydraulic conductivitiy • Seasonal high water table depth : <25 cm • Severe limitations for dwellings with basements, septic tank absorption fields and local roads and streets • Site Characteristics • Flood plain • Parent material is mangrove peat (roots and organic matter) • Nearly level slope • Very slow surface runoff • Low erosion potential • Soil Classification • Histosol
Sawgrass soil (soil #2) Sawgrass (Cladium jamaicense) marsh. Located about 300m from site of soil #1. To collect soil cores at these sites, it is a good idea to use a strong intern from Slovakia.
