Aims of Collaborative Research and Development (“Seed”) Projects Generate useful knowledge and experiences, and suggest actions for the reference of schools, teachers and the community Develop a critical mass of curriculum change agents, reflective practitioners and curriculum leaders to enhance the capacity of reform; and Serve as an impetus to school-based curriculum development

    3. What are the aims of KIP? To enhance professional development of teachers at KS2 To improve literacy levels of students at KS2

    4. What are the goals of KIP? Develop a comprehensive professional development programme for KS2 teachers Develop teaching and learning materials that model, scaffold and encourage independent use of the 5 teaching strategies for Reading and 2 teaching strategies for Writing Provide support materials and frameworks to facilitate school-based curriculum development and implementation Assist students with transition from KS1 to KS2 and prepare them for KS3 (secondary), with a specific focus on learner diversity

Addresses learner diversity Helps readers practise their own reading strategies, monitor their own reading, search for information, self-correct and discover how to overcome challenges Gives readers time to employ known strategies and skills, demonstrating how to look for and use available clues to understand the message contained in text Allows teachers to observe and evaluate the reading process in action Enables teachers to teach new reading strategies if appropriate

School’s/Teachers’ commitment for Term 1 Teachers need to attend a one-day CPD in August Timetable weekly co-planning time of at least one hour Allocate one lesson (at least 35 mins) per week in Term 1 Allocate 2 teachers to teach the Reading Workshop * Refer to Information Pack for details

School’s/Teachers’ commitment for Term 2 Attend a one-day CPD in January Timetable weekly co-planning time of at least one hour Allocate one lesson (at least 35 mins) per week for the Reading Workshop Continue to allocate 2 teachers to teach the Reading Workshop Allocate one double lesson (at least 70 mins) per week for the Writing Workshop * Refer to Information Pack for details

To prepare for the launch of KIP in September 2009 June ATs will assist with random sampling of some P3 students to match them to book levels August - Pilot/Seed Schools will be loaned Guided Reading Books to support 24 weeks of Reading Workshops Additional Big Books for Shared Reading components September - Each student will receive a copy of My English Home Reading Record My Word Bank

    24. Other Commitment for Joining the Seed Project Printing and laminating resources Support students to work and sit in groups For schools with seconded teachers: Secondment One secondee per year, e.g. three LETs over three years Secondees will be involved in - Assisting in developing and trialling appropriate resources for school - In-class and PD support for staff at own school - Professional Development at the NET Section - Providing feedback for the KIP
