  2. Events Between 1865 and 1870 • 1865-Civil War Ends. • 1867- Alaska Purchase. • 1869- Completion of Transcontinental Railroad. • 1870- Construction of Brooklyn Bridge Begins.

Events Between 1871 and 1880 1871- Civil Rights Act of 1871 is passed. 1872- Elijah McCoy patents the first automatic lubricator for steam driven locomotives. 1873- Whites over ran the town of Colfax and killed over 300 blacks. 1874- Lewis Latimer patents the invention of the bathroom in the rail road car. 1879- Thousands of blacks migrate from the south to the west lead by Pap Singleton. 1880- The number of blacks in America reach 6,580,793 African Americans.

  4. Events Between 1881 and 1890 1881- Tom Edison and Alex Bell formed the Oriental Telephone Company. 1882- Jesse James is shot at the age of 34. 1889- President Grover Cleveland 1889- President Benjamin Harrisons is elected. 1890- Record 9’2” gator shot by E A McIlhenny.

  5. Events between 1891 and 1900 1891- Stanford University opens its doors. 1892- University of Chicago opens. 1893- Benjamin Harrison leaves the Oval Office. 1894- 20th Kentucky Derby. 1898- US annexes Hawaii 1900- Hawaii becomes a US territory.

  6. Events between 1901-1910 1901- Theodore Roosevelt is elected. 1902- US buys concession to build Panama Canal for $40million.
