  3. Kinds of black holes • 3 types • Supermassive • Stellar • Miniature • How are they named • Size • Location: Cygnus X-1, Andromeda, M87, NGC 4261, and the Milky Way

  4. Formation • Pulling of gravity: tug of war • Supernova: implosion of star • Star/planet 20 times size of sun • 2.5 times size of sun after explosion= black hole

  5. How are they found • Invisible • Gravitational lensing • Bending of light • Gravitational pull Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS): A spectrograph splits any incoming light using prisms and diffraction gratings into a rainbow.
