Requirements for a Master’s Degree • Fulfill the University Writing Skills Requirement (UWSR) • Be advanced to candidacy • Complete at least 30 units applicable to your degree • All units must be earned within 5 calendar years preceding receipt of degree • Minimum of 70% must be completed in residence in your program (21 units for 30 unit program) • At least half of units must be 600-level (check program req.) • No lower division units can be counted • No more than 6 units of university thesis, department thesis or project • Complete approved program of study, including capstone experience • Earn 3.0 cumulative GPA in all units counted towards degree, with a minimum grade of “C” in each course. University Writing Skills Requirement • Required of all students, graduate or undergraduate, domestic or international • How to satisfy: • Already satisfied UWSR at CSUEB or another CSU campus • Received essay score of 4.5 or higher on GMAT or GRE, or essay score of 53 or higher on CBEST • Pass Writing Skills Test (WST) at CSUEB • Pass first-tier writing course (ENGL 300 or 301) and second-tier writing course (ENGL 302 or MKTG 305) (if needed) • Pass major-specific writing course (ex, BUS/MGMT 603) https://www.csueastbay.edu/academic/colleges-and-departments/apgs/testing/uwsr/index.html Office of Graduate Studies
Writing Skills Test • Must take WST or enroll in first-tier course by end of first semester • MBA students should take BUS 603 in first semester • Prepare for WST • Sign up early • Go to preparation workshop • Read sample essays and scoring rubric • If you do not pass WST, sign up for English courses right away. UWSR Holds • Must complete UWSR in order to file for graduation • Since you file for graduation the semester beforeyou want to graduate, you can delay your graduation by a year if you do not complete the UWSR on time. • Many departments are going to institute holds on registration even earlier, so that you will not be able to register for courses if UWSR is not in progress. • Computer Science instituting holds on Spring 2020 registration if no progress made in Fall 2019. Consequences of Academic Dishonesty • Depending on the circumstances, you may: • (a) be warned; • (b) be required to resubmit work or retake an exam under specified conditions and with a possible grade penalty; • (c) have your grade adjusted for the assignment; or • (d) have your grade adjusted in the course, including assignment of an "F" at the discretion of the faculty. • Depending upon the severity of the offense or the number of offenses, the instructor may directly refer the instance of academic dishonesty to the Office of Student Conduct, Rights and Responsibilitiesto determine if further action is necessary. http://www20.csueastbay.edu/academic/academic-policies/academic-dishonesty.html Office of Graduate Studies
