CULTURE • Ethnic groups:   South Indians, Sinhalese, Arabs • Spoken Language: The spoken language of the Maldivians is Dhivehi. • Old Civilization: During9th century ADthe Maldives had Buddhist civilization, than five hundred years later that they converted to Islam. The foundation of present-day Maldives culture is a product of that period.

Globalization Impact • Trading and Investment Maldives has been involved in International trade due to its sea routes • Education Mostly foreign teachers are involved in primary and secondary education in Male and other islands. Expanding education to vocational training, management training, training in hospitality industry, job-specific training and higher education for some in different parts of the globe. • TransportMaldivians have traditionally been good seaman and excellent boat builders. The development of an international and regional airports, increased the contribution of air transport as an important factor in integrating with the rest of the world.

Globalization Impact • Communication Maldivians these days have very modern telecommunication network spread through out the country as well as globally. • FisheriesFisheries were the backbone of Maldivian economy, the main source of foreign exchange and the main occupation of people. The Government is in the process of liberalising certain aspects of the fishing industry. • TourismTourism did, however, develop in a spectacular manner. It lifted the economy and introduced the Maldives to the global economy.
