UW-Platteville Budget Lapse PlanningJanuary/February 2012 Robert Cramer -Assistant Chancellor Cathy Riedl-Farrey - Director, Financial Services
Proposed Principles • Avoid layoffs • We are all in this together • Continue with targeted enrollment growth • Expand online programs consistent with DL plans • Preserve quality of education and improve situation for our employees • Move decisions on reductions to Assistant Chancellors, Deans, and governance groups • Strive to control our own destiny • Invest in initiatives that build revenue
Recommendation • Identify $1.6 million in reductions and reallocations annually • This meets lapse needs if the state increases to $300 million in 2011-13 and 2013-15 • This frees resources for one-time reallocation or reserves if 2011-13 lapses is $174.3 M • This anticipates lapses and cuts in 2013-15
Next steps • Review with governance groups • Monitor state revenue information • Determine specific actions in mid February
