Welcome Parents to Miss H. Sloan’s Fabulous Fourth Grade Class!
Please hold questions to the end of the presentation. Thanks!
All about me! • I graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2013, with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. • I have endorsements in English and Social Studies, which means I can teach those subjects through the 12th grade. • I am so excited to be here at OES, and I am glad your child is in my class!
Start Times
Tardy • School doors open at 7:55 am. • Class starts at 8:25 am. • Tardies begin at 8:30 am. • Your child will receive a one-day suspension after 15 tardies, and another one-day suspension for every 3rd tardy after, so be on time!!
Attendance • Your child must be present 63% of the day.. • If your child misses 2 hours and 17 minutes, they will be considered absent for the day. • We greatly stress having your child present at school each day. We have a LOT to cover!
Agenda / Homework • Students are responsible for copying down their homework in their agenda every morning. • It is to be taken home and returned to school daily. • Please sign your child’s agenda each night! • Also, any discipline problems will be recorded in the agenda for you to sign.
Daily Folders
Daily Folders • Please check your child’s folder daily. • There are two pockets in your child’s folder, a “leave at home” and “return to school.” • Please remove all papers from the leave at home section of the folder.
MONEY… • Please label all money, and send exact change. • We cannot make change in our classrooms, so money MUST be separate for multiple things. • Example: money should be labeled “Lunch money $10,” and also be separate from other labeled money such as, “Field Trip Money $8” • If you send a check, please make sure a printed phone number is somewhere on the check.
Graded Papers Folder
Graded Papers • Every Wednesday, your child will bring home a graded papers folder to be returned the next day. • Please initial each week on the line provided in the graded papers log. • You may keep all graded papers at home. • Review the test with your child! • This folder also holds important notes and a behavior log. Please sign notes and behavior log saying you saw them.
Tests • Each week we will have a math speed drill. • Tests will contain new skills as well as a review of previously learned skills. • Graded tests will be sent home in the graded papers folder.

Field Trips • Students are required to ride the bus to and from the field trips. • If a parent wishes to check out their child after a field trip, they will have to come to school and check them out when we return. (We strongly discourage this because of the new attendance policy.) • If you choose for your child not to attend a field trip, you must submit this in writing to Mrs. Love prior to the trip.
Language Arts • Reading and Language Arts will be combined on your child’s report card under Language Arts. • Reading Comprehension will make up 50% of the total grade • Writing will take up 40% of the total grade. • Performance-Based Assessment (PBA) and listening and speaking will take up 10% of the total grade. • Science/Social Studies will be a part of Reading as well as incorporated into mini-projects.
