  1. Digestive system Brooke moskalski Fernanda 1st block

  2. pharynx &Esophagus pharynx-a passage way for food, the constrictor muscles contract and help move the food through the pharynx esophagus-a passage way that carries food to the stomach

  3. stomach & liver Stomach-acts as a temporary "storage tank" while breaking the food down into smaller particles to be moved into the small intestine. liver-Main function is to produce bile which helps break down food particles.

  4. Small Intestine, Large intestine & Mouth Small intestine- chemical digestion begins here. Can only process a small amount of food at a time. The pyloric sphincter controls food movement into the small intestine so that it is not overwhelmed. Usable food is prepared for the cells. Large intestine- main function is to dry out indigestible food residue. Mouth-mucous membrane-lined cavity

  5. What the digestive system does for you. The digestive system breaks down food for your body cells to absorb and use for energy. It also disposes of the unusable foods. Foods starts in the mouth moves its way down the pharynx into the esophagus into the stomach and while in the stomach the food starts to get broken down after being in the stomach the partially broken down food moves to the small intestine where usable food is broken down for the cells to absorb for energy the unusable food is broken down and moves to the large intestine in the large intestine the waist is dried out and removed from the body as feces.

  6. Diseases within the digestive system Gallstones- when bile is stored for too long in the gallbladder the cholesterol crystalizes making gallstones which are sharp and cause pain as the gallbladder contracts to release bile. Hepatitis- inflammation of the liver Cirrhosis-a chronic inflammatory condition. Where the liver becomes hard and fibrous.
