Top 10 Reasons to Volunteer for 2nd Grade Activities: • 10. Other parents are fun to be around! • 9. It’s a chance for you to earn “brownie” points with your child. • 8. Mrs. Germann and Mrs. Thompson are really nice people. • 7.It gives you a chance to see how other kids learn, think, and act. • 6. You become an active participant in your child’s education. • 5. Before you know it, your child will not want you to be a volunteer. Do it while you can! • 4. You get to see other children embarrass their parents, too! • 3. You would probably look really good in a white apron! • 2. Where else are you going to get to taste vegemite and Pavlova?

There’s No Place Like Home! • “Traveling” lets us develop a global view of the world. • We learn about diversity within in our own culture. • It is stimulating!! • It helps them develop responsibility, curiosity, and empathy.
Life Skills (Second Step Handout) Life skills are those skills which are necessary to lead a happy and productive life. We stress these life skills in 2nd grade: • Responsibility and organization • Empathy • Sharing • Perseverance • Excellence • Common Sense • Truthfulness • Integrity
Our Day • Morning Work (8:10-8:30) • Language Arts (8:30-9:30) • Reading- Wonders, lots of books, AR • Writing- 6 trait, no cursive! • Spelling- mostly as homework • Recess (10:00-10:20) • Social Studies (10:25- 11:35) • ITI • More reading with science and social studies • Big projects • Lunch (12:00-12:25)/ Recess (11:35-11:55) • Specials (1:30-3:00)
