Living in the Middle Ages The Manor
What is your meaning of Feudalism? • Look on page 49 • Watch movie clip.
Where did they live? • Manor=village community • Lord=owned the land also called a fief • Peasants=farmed the land • No money was used. Instead they bartered or traded goods.
Farming • Three field system= one field planted in spring, one in summer and one left fallow= left to let soil rest. • Crop rotation= rotate what you plant so that soil can heal itself
Food • Wheat was the most important crop planted. • Bread most important food. • Other crops: rye, barley, peas, beans, oats. • Livestock included cows, sheep, pigs, chickens
CREATE YOUR OWN MANOR. • Mill • Three Field System • A Bridge (usually a toll bridge) • Lord’s House • Church • Priest House • Villeins/Peasants/Common People’s houses
