  7. Audience Addressed by the Trunk Shows • The locations for this trunk show would be an elementary school media center that serves children between the Kindergarten and 5th grades. • Some trunks feature books that could be related to varying grade levels at the schools, so they should be picked accordingly to address all of the age ranges served at the school library. • According to Piaget, older elementary aged children are at a stage in their lives where they are able to identify with different point of views. The traveling trunk show is able to present an amazing array of genres and literature for children to explore. • Piaget also explains the early elementary stage of development as one where children learn to represent their world through play and drawing. The Caldecott Award Trunk along with several others appeal to the visual stage of young readers.

  8. Cost of the Trunk Shows The cost table shown below would be the start up costs this program would need to serve up to eight schools for a one nine week period. If the program continued, the shipping costs would need to be budgeted for to get the trunks to and from the schools. An alternative option would be a private delivery system associated with the public library that would dramatically cut down or eliminate the shipping costs.

  9. Traveling Book Awards Trunk Show Program Summary Through this library program, thousands of children can be exposed to amazing literature. They will learn more about what aspects of the book enables it to get recognized nationally or internationally for an award or medal. The hopes of this program is that it is easy to set-up and use in a school library and that the contents of the trunks can be enjoyed by all that see it.
