Recall how to square root a number Understanding order of operations and why we square root last(usually) Solve equations with an unknown squared Objectives
What is the square root of 25? Yes, 5. Because 5 multiplied by itself is 25. But is there another number multiplied by itself that makes 25? Yes, -5!! 5 x 5 = 25 and (-5) x (-5) = 25. When we square root a number, we get two solutions! (Unless it’s zero.) Square Rooting
If an equation has an unknown that is squared, we need to square root it! Let’s try an easy one. Equations Example (Here we need to square root both sides.) Solve √ √ (This can also be written as ±9; either is fine.) I hope that was easy. Try the first worksheet please!
To undo equations, we do everything in the opposite order. So we will square root last! Order of Operations Example Solve -4 -4 ÷2 ÷2 √ √ Good luck with the last worksheet!
