The Founding of the Carolina Colonies The Carolina Colonies were founded by eight nobles, they were given a grant of land by King Charles II. They created two colonies, the northern part and the southern part.
The Northern Part In the North Part lived poor tobacco farmers, it wasn’t a very successful colony
The Southern Part In the southern part lived a much larger colony. The largest settlement in the area was named Charles town soon shortened to Charleston. This was a much more successful colony
Early Settlers Early settlers were English people living in the Barbados under British control. Then soon came German, Swiss, French Protestants, and Spanish Jews.
Troubles In 1715 the Yamasee attacked the Beufort area and killed about 100 settlers, also many Charlestonians and other South Carolinians died of yellow fever and other diseases
