The Redesign for’09 • Renaming of Applied Arts courses to Encore courses • Redesigning Encore courses to implement and reflect skills of the 21st Century and to align with the high school SLC model • Redesigning and expanding elective courses to increase exposure to the high school SLC model
The Redesign for ‘09 • Credits and Graduation Requirements - Grades 6-8 • Preparing students for high school • Credits will be earned to ensure mastery and ensure meaningful middle school experiences • Supports in place to help students with credit completion if necessary • Some classes may count for graduation requirements such as World Language

The Redesign for ‘09 • Next steps • Dividing up and purchasing teacher resources to open 3 middle schools. • Determine the number of sections at each level and putting together teams of teachers. • Determining the number of encore staff in each building. • Building a master schedule that allows implementation of new programming.
The Redesign for ‘09 • Determining what can be phased in over time • Making sure we continue to building the foundation that will allow our students to feed into the two high schools • Making sure all the curriculum revisions are addressing our rigorous standards and meeting the needs of students in the 21st century. • Making sure our current students are receiving a quality education

The Redesign for ‘09 • Credits and Graduation Requirements – Grades 9-12 • Must reflect state law – physics or chemistry now required as well as algebra II; algebra moving to grade 8 • Design team directs competency in world language • Must prepare students for post-secondary programs
