09/201 Report of TC -2009Ruud Morssinkhof 17/10/2009
General impression Projects Ongoing from 2008 New in 2009 Proposal 2010 Standardisation TC 88 : Insulation TC 89-WG12 : reflective insulation TC 127 : Fire safety in buildings Subjects
General • Three meetings • Many participants (often more than 15) • All types of members represented • Good atmosphere
Ongoing projectsstarted in 2008 • Durability • U value of warm roofs • Training tool Fire • Walkability • Fire “De Punt” • The role of thermal insulation: Myth and reality
New projectsstarted 2009 • Acoustic tests for PU-boards, spay foam and sandwich panels • Myths and reality on “Multifoil”
Project proposal 2010 Thick PU boards with better insulation value • Aim : • Provide evidence that gas open PU boards over 159 mm, have better performance than in the current standard, to be able to change standard • How: • Collect evidence inside members PU-Europe • Propose change in EN 13165 • Sample boards of 160 and 200 mm (Gas open) • Notified Body to confirm our evidence • Report of NB to CEN TC88 • Project • Costs : 20.000 euro • NB : proposal FIW, for good connections to TC88-WG1 • Timing : ready before june 2010 • Next steps • Decide Go/No GO
StandardisationTC 88 • EN 15715: Mounting and fixing • out for formal vote, expected Q1 2010 • Results to be used on voluntary basis, not for CE-marking • Revision of EN 13165 serie • Sustainability • Dimensional stability • Extension of “Gas open” table • Gas tight definition • FPC/ITT frequencies • Need to fight for new properties : walkability and emmisivity • In situ standards : • Out for formal vote • ETICS • Discussion on ownership of mandate between EOTA and CEN • PU now active • PU still not in mandate
StandardisationTC127 • SBI : • Small changes in standard (editorial) • Maybe change to change threshold from 0.2 to 0.4 for all classes, thanks to our support of work VTT • Room corner • Stopped discussion of RC as classification for now • External fire on roofs • Proposal for Extended applications (EXAP/DIAP document is nearly ready, but is “empty” • First proposal for “Single burning roof test” on principles
StandardisationTC89-WG12 • Workshop 36 • Stopped by good coordinated action of insulants • TC89-WG12 • Develop standard on lab tests for Multifoils, based on classical methods, nearly ready • Develops standard on emmisivity, nearly ready • TC89-WG13 • New group, on “in-situ” testing • Has to be representative • Still in startup-phase, convenor to be selected
Summary • Projects • Many projects ongoing • Work on “De Punt” : successful • Need to “cash” • Standardisation • Keep close watch on Revision: need coordinated action in countries in enquiry phase • TC89-WG13: select our choice of convenor, and support in all countries
Thank you for your attention www.pu-europe.eu
Walkability • Aim • To develop a method for walkability for standardisation purposes • Status • FIW started review of methods • PU-Europe proposal was made on basis of existing standard (EN 13793) • Next steps • Develop a test • Selection of method • Determine realistic parameters of test • Perform small series of feasibility tests (december 2009) • Check proposed method with wide series of materials • Publicize results via CEN TC88
Durability • Aim : • provide insight of durability of PU and other insulants • Status • First phase desktop study finished • Little know in public literature • Second phase nearly ready • Results to be expected in 2009 • Long term performance • Real life sampling of old roof • One needs to be opened • One was opened : EPS inside • Next steps • Finalise study FIW • Find more real life samples to proof that PU is durable
Training tool Fire • Aim: • Provide a modular set of papers on fire, to be able to meet specific requirements of targeted audience • Status • Targeted audience defined • Subject and modules defined • External consultant selected • Collecting information • Next steps: • Complete all information (anonymously) • Start writing first set of papers (December) • Expected completion Q2, 2010
U value of warm roofs • Aim: • How does insulation perform “in situ” • Status • BRE/WTCB have defined project, with MW, PU, Multifoil and Multifoil+PU • Praktical arrangement ready • Work will start november/december • Next steps • Follow work carefully • Try to influence outcome in favour of PU
Fire “De Punt” • Aim: • PU sandwich panels and spray foam were blamed to be the major cause of three casualties in “de Punt” was : Help NVPU • Status • First and second report of local authorities very negative for PU • DGMR report : different scenario could explain all phenomena, without significant contribution of PU sandwich panels. IBW simulations confirms this scenario • Dutch Safety board report : First reports wrong, DGMR right • Press release from NVPU • Next steps • Factsheet on “de Punt” (oktober in Dutch) • Get as much publicity as possible http://www.onderzoeksraad.nl/index.php/onderzoeken/brand-scheepsloods-de-punt-9-mei-2008/#rapporten
Acoustic tests for PU-boards, spay foam and sandwich panels • Aim: • Provide good information on sound properties of applications with PU insulation • Status • Applications defined (11 build-ups, panels, spray and boards • Work started at APIP (Spain) • Next steps • Finalize tests • Report : including existing information (IVPU, ATEPA)
Myths and realityon “Multifoil” • Aim: • Counteract all myths invented by ACTIS, and make this information available • Status • Myths identified • First reality cases ready • Next steps • Finalise all reality cases • Issue factsheet
The role of thermal insulation: Myth and reality • Aim: • Counteract all myths invented by Rockwool, and make this information available for internal use • Status • Factsheet ready in English • Translated into Dutch • Next steps • Finalized • Other translations needed? National organisations
