Considering Alberta’s Curriculum Development Model Modern Curriculum Development has taken on a wider scope because our society has become increasingly complex; causing an increased need for curriculum to cease being a static product, and become a living process capable of adjusting to constantly changing times by being in continual contact with a broad segments of our society and a globalized world
Alberta’s Curriculum Development Model The nature of modern Curriculum Development is… that it comes together in bits and pieces. It’s the nature of the beast!
21st Century learners • Take as many Post It notes as you need • Write one thought on each Post It note • One expectation that you have for your own child, students in this district, students in this school, for an employee of yours • You may write more Post It Notes as you watch the video

Take one Playing Card, numbered 1 - 5 and one Playing Card numbered 6 - 10
Jigsaw Activity • Find the people who have the playing card with your number (1 – 5) • There are matching numbers posted around the room – meet there • Take your Competency handouts, and a pen with you (and sticky notes if you prefer to use those) • You will read and discuss the competency that matches your playing card • A guide for your discussion is on the next slide
Jigsaw and Expert Groups • Discuss: • What is currently happening in your school, in your class. • Implications for instruction role • Implications for assessment • Talk about a lesson, activity, or project you have done, or seen done at your school, or at another school, that meets your competency.
Check the number on your second card (6 – 10) and go to that spot in the room
Time to Share • Please return to your tables • Take turns to share the information from your competencies
