Accessible Technology Initiative—CSU • Vision: To create a culture of access for an inclusive learning and working environment. • Mission: To help CSU campuses in carrying out EO926 by developing guidelines, implementation strategies, tools and resources.
ATI: CSU Policy • "It is the policy of the CSU to make information technology resources and services accessible to all CSU students, faculty, staff and the general public regardless of disability."
ATI: What is it? • Guided by federal and state law • Section 508 of Rehabilitation Act • California Government Code 11135 • Based upon CSU Coded Memorandum • For the CSU covers Web Accessibility, Procurement, and Instructional Design • Unfunded but best practice • Fluid—due to changes in technology and guidelines
Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 • Requires all electronic and communication technology used by the government be accessible. • It includes computer hardware, software, networks, office peripherals, and web content. • CSU mandates that all CSU systems must adhere to these standards.
ATI: Simplest Form • Individuals can get to or “access” information in more than one way • If it is presented in an audio file--a transcript is available • If it is presented in written text--it is formatted appropriately for text readers and other devices
