3. Why monitor tire pressure? “Off the road tires are very expensive, therefore it is very important to use them under proper conditions. It cannot be overemphasised to have a good maintenance program for obtaining the best tire performance.”

Mines, ports and other users of large OTR vehicles are concentrating on keeping the equipment operational and ensuring tyre supply is not an issue whilst also reducing operating costs
Escondida (BHP Billiton) is the worlds largest copper mine. 122 haul trucks. Key challenges set out by BHP in 2007:
"Increase the availability of mine equipment (trucks)"
and
"Supply of new tyres“
But getting real time tire pressure data for OTR tires requires different technology and application than TPMS systems used for passenger cars.

6. The founding members of A M Bromley Limited worked for Otter Controls Limited who was one of the initial developers of TPMS in the world with some of the earliest filed Patents.
In 1997 Otter Controls ceased development.
A M Bromley Limited was founded to provide electronic solutions and product development.
Acquired TMS Intellectual Property in 2002
We continued development and testing on F1 racing cars, supplying the top F1 teams. This was a tough testing ground for the product as it had to withstand speeds in excess of 200mph, shock and vibration whilst remaining accurate and reliable.
The TPMS market for passenger cars was already well underway by this stage. We saw a market opportunity in supplying niche markets that had very large expensive tires and assets to maintain.
2004/5 TMS was supplied to the OTR market.

Receivers decode the data transmitted from the sensors. Mounted inside the cab and powered by the vehicle supply. Antennas are connected to ensure reliable radio reception. The RS232 serial data is used by a lot of customers to integrate direct to their vehicle or other third party equipment.

13. The Benefits of Tire Monitor System Real time, continuous display in the cab so drivers can make decisions whilst on shift
Data is stored in memory with a time stamp so that managers can download and view to see historical tire pressure data and a history of the alarms
Warning of low pressure and increased temperature
Feedback from sites has clearly shown that drivers maintain tire pressures more reliably with TMS installed. The display warns of low pressure, high pressure, high temperature, low battery and timeout.
Downtime for Bombardier has been reduced since operating with TMS. Cars can be pulled off-line before a failure occurs.
Data showed exactly when a catastrophic tire failure occurred. From the time and date of the log the site manager could trace who was driving and it was shown that an untrained driver was operating the machine.
The high temperature alarm has indicated failure with hub bearings and locked brakes. Warning before the failure and preventing unscheduled downtime.Feedback from sites has clearly shown that drivers maintain tire pressures more reliably with TMS installed.
