  3. The project Focus on a very specific target group, youngsters in prison that undergo VET. There experience are interrupted or ad hoc vocations in education leading to a shortage of proved competences which makes it difficult to enter either vocational education or the labor market afterwards. Aim to provide them support in making a portfolio of their learning as well as to recognize the learning activities and link them to formal qualifications though APL. This should give them a better change to continue VET or start working after leaving the prison should prevent fallback into criminal behavior. Based on the instrument ROC Aventus and JPC De Sprengen have used during a pilot: a portfolio and APL. The project will upgrade this instruments based on experiences of others and will pilot the upgraded instrument in all participating countries.

This project includes • sharing experiences on VET in prison in an international context; • update the Dutch materials for portfolio and APL for this target group; • adapt the materials for use in the project other countries • pilots with portfolio and APL in the juvenile prisons • evaluate experiences and results • publish portfolio and APL-tools • publish lessons learned

About ROC Aventus • The largest regional VET college in the ‘Stedendriehoek’-area • ‘ROC’ stands for ‘regional community college’ • Locations in Apeldoorn, Deventer and Zutphen • Educational career centre for secondary vocational education and training (VET) and courses on a contract basis • Over 200 courses, more than 17,000 students and trainees • Large employer in the area: ca. 1,250 employees

About JPC de Sprengen • Juvenile prison JPC de Sprengen • Zutphen and Wapenveld (The Netherlands) • boys between 12 and 24 years old • 150 youngsters • All boys <18 receive education • boys >18 can choose for education or work • The Sprengen is one of the most modern juvenile prisons in the country with a strong desire to innovate its curriculum.

About ISQ • ISQ is a private and independent technological institution • ISQ runs operations in the EU, East Europe, Africa, Americas and China • ISQ offers experience on the fields of training, certifications, engineering studies, auditing and consulting for quality, research and development • >986 workers in Portugal and >500 abroad • works closely with the Carregueira Prison and the women’s prison of Tires. • ISQ will provide the national information for Portugal and will test the portfolio and the APL in the prisons.

About CSCS (Centro Studi "Cultura Sviluppo) • CSCS is a vocational training provider • Integration of new technologies in teaching practices • accredited by Italian Government • Operating with a Quality Assurance System in the following sectors: Initial vocational education; Apprenticeship; Continuous training for companies and professionals; Vocational guidance and orientation. • CSCS is the National Coordinator for Italy of EFVET, the European Forum of Vocational Education and Training
