Need for co-operation in geothermal energy in the Danube Region – an outlook and way forward Annamária Nádor Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary TRANSENERGY Final Conference, June 24, 2013, Vienna
TRANSENERGY outcomes as best practices • Way of thinking and establishedmethodologies – „a new country” • Identifystakeholders → understandtheirneeds → „translate”policy related / manegementquestionstoscientificones • Findthebestwaytoprovideappropriateanswers: integratedgeoscientificmodels (geological, hydrogeological, geothermal) • Feedthemodelswith uniform (harmonized) data input Slovakia Austria TRANSENEGY Hungary Slovenia Croatia • Findthe right partners: National GeologicalSurveysasgovernmentalorganizationshave: • Most completenationaldatabases • Expertisetoprovideimpartialassessments
Lessons learned in TRANSENERGY should be expanded to Europe/ Danube Region
Why? The geothermal potential of the Danube Region is outstanding, ambitious NREAP targets 2 km 4 km 3 km Source of temperaturemaps: Geoelec project
Why? Transboundary issues Geothermal reservoirs do not stop at state borders: harmonized management strategies between the neighbouring countries are essential to guarantee sustainable production and reach environmental goals
Next steps and way forward • Official project closure: September 30, 2013 • Final reports and Strategy Paper → distribution to stakeholders • Training on the use of the web-portal (national events, September) Vision: Geothermal information platform as a basis of joint understanding and evalution of resources Synergieswithotherongoing / plannedprojects: Geothermal ERANET, GeoMOL, Geo-DH, etc
