INVESTMENT OF SPAIN IN VIETNAM Several Spanish companies in the clothing/textiles sector make their production in Vietnam but do not have a direct presence in the country. Spain's investment in Vietnam is still very small. At the end of 2016, Spain ranks number 59 among 110 countries having investment in Vietnam, with 49 projects and total investment capitals reaching 38.6 million Euros. But this investment does not include the investment of Repsol after its acquisition of Talisman Group (Canada) since 2015. The presence of Repsol in the oil and gas sector in Vietnam is accounting for some billions of Euros. 11
TOURISM The number of Spanish tourists visiting Vietnam in recent years grows progressively: 33,183 visitors in 2013, 40,716 in 2014, more than 45,000 in 2015 and more than 60,000 in 2016, according to the statistics of Vietnam National Tourism Agency (VNAT). In the medium and long term, a strong increase should be expected. 12

The way forward Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Spain 23-24/5/2017, attended a Vietnam-Spain Business Forum which was organized in Madrid with the participation of over 100 businessmen and enterprises of the two countries. The two sides exchanged opportunities for cooperation in a number of potential areas such as infrastructure, renewable energy, agro-processing, waste treatment, tourism, etc. These sectors are the ones that Spanish companies have many advantages and Vietnam are in the need of cooperation. Bilateral cooperation: set to inaugurate by end of 2017 Joint Commission on Economic cooperation Target set for 2020: 5 bn USD of two-way trade volume (now standing at around 3 bn USD)
Conclusion The potential of bilateral economic cooperation is very big in coming years, especially when the FTA Vietnam-EU come into force (hopefully by 2018). Vietnam offers trade and investment opportunities for Spanish companies in areas including infrastructures, high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, waste management and water treatment.
