Some Digital Video Concepts • Windows XP users can easily try it free • Windows Movie Maker: www.microsoft.com/moviemaker • Google “digital video” for lots of information • www.shortcourses.com/video/news.htm • Connect the camcorder to the PC • Usually requires IEEE 1394, or Firewire interface • PC may need a new card (IEEE 1394 or Firewire) • Some Sony camcorders record to DVD (30 minutes max) • Digital video storage requires lots of disk space • 0.2 GB per minute of video (uncompressed) • Complex digital video editing takes lots of PC power • No other applications running, reboot often

Nassau Bay Television (NBTV) • Serve the citizens of Nassau Bay • Public Access Channel 16 available only to Time Warner customers • NBTV is staffed with volunteers and all digital • Processing required for all Nassau Bay Television video (consider ten minutes the average video) (John Neustadter’s “job”) • "Capture" video in PC - 10 minutes, unless file is provided • Check/trim beginning and end of video - 5 minutes • Encode video to MPEG2 - 30 minutes • Check encoded video - 10 minutes • Transfer encoded video to TV machine - 3 minutes • Add video to NBTV playlist – 5 minutes
