  2. The Corinthian Church was a problematic, divided church. • There were those who believed that the level of one’s spirituality depended on the kind of spiritual gift he or she possessed. • Many believed that speaking in tongues was the superior gift.

  5. 1 Corinthians 12:20-26 20Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. 21The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” 22In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.

  6. 1 Corinthians 12:20-26 23And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, 24while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity.

  7. 1 Corinthians 12:20-26 25This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. 26If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad.

  8. Fellowship(Greek - koinonia) means communion by intimate participation. It includes the concepts of common, community, sharing, and joint participation. • The Body of Christ is a fellowship • Fellowship is a distinctive of the Body of Christ. • The church is more than an organization or corporation.

  12. 3 John 9I wrote to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be the leader, refuses to have anything to do with us. 10When I come, I will report some of the things he is doing and the evil accusations he is making against us. Not only does he refuse to welcome the traveling teachers, he also tells others not to help them. And when they do help, he puts them out of the church.

In the local church, Christians have different roles and functions. God’s Word reminds us that no members of the fellowship are more worthy of honor than the rest of us.
