The Greatest Objective in Life – is to Glorify God! • In all we say and do, I Corinthians 10:31-32. • We should glorify God: • By confessing Jesus as Lord, Philippians 2:11. • By keeping our bodies pure, I Corinthians 6:20. • By worshipping God “in the beauty of holiness,” Ps. 29:1 • By bearing much fruit, John 15:8. • By letting our light shine, Matthew 5:16.
The Greatest Privilege in Life – that of being a child of God! • Consider I John 3:1-2. • Consider Galatians 3:26-27. • As children of God, we: • Can be on praying terms with God, Matthew 6:9. • Are heirs of God, Romans 8:16-17. • Have a living hope, I Peter 1:3-4. • Have a seat at the Father’s table, Matthew 26:26-29; I Corinthians 10:16.
The Greatest Work in Life isthe work of Winning Souls to God! • Prov. 11:30, “He that winneth souls is wise..” • Dan. 12:2-3, Shine “as the stars forever..” • Matthew 16:26, the value of one soul. • A work that brings joy in this life, Acts 8:39, and in the day of judgment, I Thess. 2:19-20. • Luke 19:10, This was the mission of Christ. • The church’s mission the same as that of Jesus. • Winning souls more important than feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless…!
The Greatest Joy in Life isthe Joy of Salvation! • Acts 8:39, the eunuch rejoiced. • Acts 16:34, the jailor & his household. • Psalm 51:11-12, joy in salvation. • There is joy in the realization that: • One is free from his sins, Romans 6:17-18. • One is now a recipient of all spiritual blessings, Ephesians 1:3. • One has a “living hope,” I Peter 1:3-6.
The Greatest Victory in life is thatof Overcoming Self and the World! • All are tempted, Jas. 1:13-15; I John 2:15-17. • Each must buffet his body, I Corinthians 9:27. • In Christ there is victory, I John 5:4. • Rev. 2:7, those who overcome “will eat of the tree of life..in the paradise of God.” • Yet the most difficult battles are those we fight from within, Romans 7:15,19,24-8:1. • We must deny self, and take up the cross, Matthew 16:24.
The Greatest Loss in life isto Lose One’s Own Soul! • Matthew 16:26, “What is a man profited if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul..? • Luke 12:15-21, “Take heed and beware of covetousness for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things…he possesseth..” • Luke 16:19-31, the rich man, “in hell lifted up his eyes being in torments…”
The Greatest Neglect in life isto Neglect one’s own Salvation! • Hebrews 2:1-4, “How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation” (v. 3). • Hell will be populated with millions who never “got around” to obeying God, people agonizing over “what might have been!” Acts 24:25; Acts 26:28. • How would you feel if you were given a million dollars and lost it all through sheer neglect? That’s nothing compared to those who knew the truth, but neglected to follow through!
The Greatest Prize to sought isthe Prize of Eternal Life! • I Corinthians 9:24-27, what awaits the faithful Christian is an incorruptible crown. • Philippians 3:13-14 – the prize the apostle Paul pressed forward to receive. • This was the prize awaiting the apostle Paul at the end of his journey, 2 Timothy 4:6-8.
Application: In View of these things, We Must: • Resolve to love: • God with all our heart, Matthew 22:35-38. • Our neighbor as ourselves, Matthew 25:39-40. • Resolve to glorify God with our body and spirit, I Corinthians 6:20. • Make it our aim to be faithful children of God, I John 3:1 • Engage in the great work of winning souls to the Lord, 2 Timothy 2:2. • “Rejoice in the Lord,” Philippians 4:4.
Application: In View of These things We Must: (continued) • Overcome Self, Galatians 2:20. • Take heed lest we drift away, Hebrews 2:1. • Continually examine ourselves, 2 Corinthians 13:5. • Abound in the work of the Lord, I Corinthians 15:57-58.
Conclusion: • For faithful Christians, in view of the “greatest” things we enjoy, we should never slack off in our service to God. • For Non-Christians, in view of the “greatest” things they are missing out on, should hasten to obey the gospel. • Erring children of God, in view of the “greatest” things they are giving up, should reclaim those blessings by returning to the Lord.
