  2. Introduction • Steroid use became a huge problem • Many were using to gain an edge • Current rules came into effect in 2004 • Strengthened in 2008 • Many Baseball greats have used

  3. Barry Bonds • Used for an advantage • Home Runs/Batting Average • No major trouble on the field; some off • 1 homerun every 10.4 at bats

  4. Current Rules • Three strikes approach • “The first positive test would result in a fifty game suspension. The second positive test would result in a one-hundred game suspension. Finally, the third positive test would result in a lifetime suspension from Major League Baseball.” (Baseball Almanac) • Cracking down

  5. Pro • Cutting down on suspensions • Is put into effect • Manny Ramirez • Second Offense • Left Baseball

  6. Con • Previous players no penalties • No rules before 2003 • Allowing previous players to get other jobs • Could keep playing

  7. Mediation • Current policy is working • Need to random drug test more • Need to harshen the penalties for players such as Bonds • Records need to be erased
