  1. Why Do We Fall?

  2. Getting better through… • Relentless and deliberate practise • Exposure to better • Getting it wrong and learning from it • Positivity and self belief

  3. Atychiphobia The abnormal and persistent fear of failure A person will undermine their own efforts so they no longer have to continue to try

  4. Fear of Failure…? • Not attempt a difficult question but ask for help straight away or miss it out • Not put yourself forward for something because you : - might get it wrong / might be turned down - might not be good at it - might not like it - other people might think…. • Avoid someone rather than have an awkward conversation or hear something you don’t want to hear • Not ask for help with a problem because it might get worse before it gets better • Join in “hating” someone because taking time to find out the truth or present a fairer view would risk you being targeted

  5. Fear of failure when preparing for revision and exams • Avoiding the subject you know you are less confident in • Revising the things you are better at instead • Not doing the timed question but a general plan instead • Checking the answer before making yourself work out the answer • Missing out a question/topic

  6. Failing with Confidence “Don’t be afraid to fail. Aim to fail with confidence” • Embrace your mistakes they are necessary for you to improve • Change the voice in your head

  7. Instead of : “I’m rubbish at…I can’t do…”

  8. Try “Oh, that’s interesting. It tells me ..”

  9. The importance of failure “The knowledge that you have emerged wiser and stronger from setbacks means that you are, ever after, secure in your ability to survive”

  10. Failing is not.. • The definition of who you are • A reason to be unkind or unreasonable to yourself • The end result “It will be alright in the end, if its not alright, its not the end”

  11. Getting better through… • Relentless and deliberate practise • Exposure to better • Getting it wrong and learning from it • Positivity and self belief Failing with the confidence that it can take you a step closer to where you want to get to…

  12. “You got a dream? You’ve got to protect it.” • “You want something - go get it” • “Most of you say you want to be successful but you don’t want it bad enough. You kinda want it but you don’t want it badder than you wanna be partying or be cool or to sleep” • “Skill is only developed by hours and hours and hours of beating on your craft” • “Do not quit – you’re already in pain get a reward from it”
