THERE ARE THREE POSSIBILITIES TO MEET THE DEFINITION OF “LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT” • 3.OTHER PREVIOUSLY CERTIFICATED AIRCRAFT • THAT MEET THE DEFINITION OF LSA IN FAR 1.1: • STANDARD ( J-3 CUB, AERONCA 7AC, ETC.) • PRIMARY ( QUICKSILVER ) • EXPERIMENTAL, AMATEUR-BUILT ( RANS S-6,7 • KITFOX CLASSIC 4, ETC.) NOTE: Once these aircraft have been certified as standard, primary, or an amateur-built, they must remain under that certificate. However, a sport-pilot can fly these aircraft as light-sport when the aircraft meets the definition of light-sport aircraft.

SPECIAL LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATION (SLSA) NEW FAR 21.190(a) THE FAA WILL ISSUE A SPECIAL AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATE IN THE LIGHT-SPORT CATEGORY FOR FACTORY-BUILT, READY-TO-FLY, LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT ( NOT GYROPLANE CLASS ) THAT MAY BE USED FOR SPORT AND RECREATION, FLIGHT TRAINING FOR HIRE, TOWING, OR RENTAL.
SPECIAL LIGHT-SPORT AIRCRAFT CERTIFICATION (SLSA) NEW FAR 21.190(c) MANUFACTURERS OF AIRCRAFT INTENDED FOR CERTIFICATION IN THE LIGHT-SPORT CATEGORY MUST ISSUE A STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE THAT : • IDENTIFIES AIRCRAFT MAKE, MODEL, SERIAL • NUMBER, CLASS, DATE OF MANUFACTURE, • CONSENSUS STANDARD USED. • STATES THAT THE AIRCRAFT MEETS THE • PROVISIONS OF THE IDENTIFIED CONSENSUS • STANDARD. • 3. STATES THAT THE AIRCRAFT CONFORMS TO THE • MANUFACTURER’S DESIGN DATA USING THE MFR’S • QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEM THAT MEETS THE • IDENTIFIED CONSENSUS STANDARD.
IDENTIFIES THE APPLICABLE OPERATING • INSTRUCTIONS, MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION • PROCEDURES, AND FLIGHT TRAINING SUPPLEMENT. • 5. IDENTIFIES THE SYSTEM USED TO MONITOR AND • CORRECT SAFETY-OF-FLIGHT ISSUES THRU THE • ISSUANCE OF SAFETY DIRECTIVES AND A • CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS SYSTEM. • 6. DESIGNATED AIRWORTHINESS REPRESENTATIVES DARs ARE PRIVATE PERSONS DESIGNATED BY THE FAA TO PERFORM AUTHORIZED CERTIFICATION FUNCTIONS ON BEHALF OF THE FAA, AND MAY CHARGE A FEE FOR THIS SERVICE. THERE WILL BE TWO NEW DAR FUNCTIONS FOR LSA CERTIFICATION: SPECIAL LIGHT-SPORT AND EXPERIMENTAL LIGHT-SPORT. THE FAA MAY FURTHER LIMIT THE DAR’S AUTHORITY BASED ON THE CLASS OF LSA (PP, WSC, AIRPLANE, ETC.)

AIRWORTHINESS CERTIFICATION THE ASI OR DAR MUST PHYSICALLY INSPECT YOUR AIRCRAFT TO DETERMINE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE CERTIFICATION APPLIED FOR AND IT IS IN A CONDITION FOR SAFE OPERATION !

REQUIRED MARKINGS FOR LSA (AMENDED FAR SECTIONS 45.23, 45.27 AND 45.29) • FOR FIXED-WINGLSA THE REGISTRATION • NUMBERS SHOULD BE 12 INCHES HIGH AND • PLACED ON THE VERTICAL TAIL SURFACE • OR THE SIDES OF THE FUSELAGE.
