Objectives • The ERP-TTSD aims to: • provide an infra-structure to support technology transfer in the field of sustainable development in Europe; • provide advice, facilitate information exchange and access to new technologies; • raise capacity to address the challenges in sustainable development; • promote sustainability at country, regional and at the local level; • allow information and know-how be acquired in a quick and cost-effective way ; • Ultimately, ERP-TTSD will support end-users whether they are a municipality, a company, a government agency or a NGO.
Thematic areas • building/construction • coastal zone management /river management • education, awareness and training • energy use and conservation • environmental health / environmental impact assessment • environmental risks and risk assessment/management • protected areas and protected sites • planning /reconstruction in post-conflict areas • tourism and tourism strategies, including leisure and entertainment • urban-rural relations /use of indicators • water resources management • The approach to be used in the work is a cross-sectorial one.

Activities • coordination /participation in projects either as project partners or external experts (European Sustainability Survey) • provision of general advice on projects or on sustainability issues (approaches, methods, indicators, etc) • organisation or co-organisation of training activities (e.g. seminars, courses, workshops) e.g. „Integrative Approaches“ Jurmala, May • production of scientific reports, analyses and appraisals • production of books ( e.g. Handbook of Sustainability Research) • technical support to sectorial based approaches to sustainability • participation in panels, working groups and other scientific groups • The ERP-TTSD team will actively seek partnerships and agreements.

Conclusions • The „European Reference Point for Technology Transfer for Sustainable Development" fills in a gap • It shows how sustainability concepts may be put into practice • It illustrates how know-how from universities may be put to use • It outlines that sustainability ideas make financial sense • It presents international projects and showcases technologies • It will hopefully encourage more partnerships!
