  2. What is the Hero’s Journey? • The hero’s journey is a common story pattern or plot. • It can be found in texts from ancient civilizations fairy tales, novels from every era, and in newly released Hollywood blockbusters.

  3. Step 1: The Ordinary World This is the everyday life and environment of the hero.

  4. Step 2: Call to Adventure The call to adventure is the person’s life when they are first given notice that everything is going to change, and he/she will going on a journey.

  5. Step 3: Refusal of the Call The hero refuses to accept the call because of fear, insecurity, a sense of inadequacy, or another reason.

  6. Step 4: Crossing the Threshold This is when the hero takes his/hers first step of the journey.

  7. Step 5: Challenges and Temptations On the journey, the hero will face many challenges and temptations. These will prepare the hero for his/hers final challenge.

  8. Step 6: The Ordeal The Ordeal is the final and most difficult challenge in the hero’s journey. It is the task the hero must overcome to complete his/hers journey.

  9. Step 7: Reward This is what the hero receives for success on his/hers journey.

  10. Step 8: The Road Back The path on which the hero returns to the ordinary world.
