  2. Getting to know you • Enjoyment and fun!!! • Making new friends • Developing independence - Coats and toilet • First day (8.50am - 3.10pm) - Walk in from front door; collect from side entrance

  3. School Lunches • Healthy packed lunch or… • School meal option - check menu daily • £1.90 daily in a purse (with note for teacher if necessary) • Meat option (for Vegetarian and Halal option please register at office)

  4. Foundation Phase “Play is children's work” - Lilian Katz • Experiential learning - Project or topic approach (Pupil voice – children's interest often lead learning experiences) • Skills based curriculum – focus on learning skills rather than acquiring knowledge. • Structured and Child initiated play • promotes intellectual and social development • first hand experiences • exploration, independence and collaboration • Rigour of Maths and English maintained

  5. Physical Development… • PE – Wednesday and Friday • Changing for PE - Clothes, independence, labels and PE bags - Earrings - Daps (Wait for note - Summer term) - Long hair • Class Moves, Brain Gym and Outdoor play

Developing Early Reading Skills • Engender a love of reading NOT just progressing through a scheme. • Successful readers are those who are read to regularly from an early age • Guided Reading - Daily in a group with an adult • Reading at Home - Children will bring home the book they have read in class to share with you. Please return book to school daily • Library Books - Each week (Wednesday)

  7. Developing Early Writing Skills Immerse in positive experiences From mark making and drawing, to writing

  8. Assessment • “Observation is the key to assessment” - Susan Isaacs. We observe children closely to know where they are in their learning and how to move them on. • Children’s books – detailed marking and targets set for future learning • Records - for termly progress

Things to remember… Named Waterbottles - brought to school every day Named School Bags - only need to be big enough for reading book, purses and letters Uniform - please label clearly Parking – Please do not park/drop off on the yellow zig-zags. Safety of our children is paramount Behaviour - catch children being good. Class rules, rewards and consequences agreed with children. Individual rewards as well as class rewards. Families will be contacted sooner rather than later if behaviour is of concern.

Home-School Links • Weekly WAG, website and Twitter - school news • Communication - via phone call, notes, including sickness. • Your skills – Enrichment activities or practical support - we welcome any offers! • End of Day – Exit via side access. Trim Trail only to be used during the school day when supervised. • Any Worries - Please come into school and discuss any worries you or your child have. Appointments can be made early morning or after school
