  3. Alcohol is the most commonly used and abused drug among youth in the United States.

  4. Teens ages 12 to 20 drink 11% of all alcohol consumed in the United States.

  5. Twenty-five percent of youth ages 12 to 20 drink alcohol.

  6. But which ages are drinking?

  7. In the last 30 days4 out of 10 8th graders have drunk alcohol.

  8. In the last 30 days7 out of 10 12th graders have drunk alcohol.

  9. Initial curiosity about alcohol can quickly become a habit.

  10. An adolescent may become addicted to alcohol in as little as 6 TO 18 MONTHS.

  11. ONE IN FIVE alcoholics in the United States is a teen between the ages of 13 and 17.

  12. Youth who begin drinking before the age of 15 are FOUR TIMESmore likely to become an alcoholic than those who wait until 21.

  13. But there’s more.

  14. Alcohol is responsible for more than 4,300 ANNUAL DEATHS among underage youth.

  15. That equals about 11 deathseach day.

  16. Which means that about every other hourwe lose another life.
