This presentation will: • Introduce the East Roads Team • Talk about what they do and their responsibilities • Focus on the Portobello and Craigmillar Action Plan • Update you on current NEPS and other projects; and invite suggestions for future works • Invite you to participate in a ‘mini workshop’
What are we responsible for? Ward 14 – Craigentinny and Duddingston:Category 1 Roads- 6.7kmCategory 2 Roads- 9.1kmCategory 3 Roads- 7.5kmCategory 4 Roads- 47.4km Total = 70.7km Ward 17 – Portobello and Craigmillar:Category 1 Roads- 19.1kmCategory 2 Roads- 4.2km Category 3 Roads- 6.6kmCategory 4 Roads- 63.3km Total = 93.2km
What are we responsible for? • Inspection and maintenance of roads and pavements • Co-ordinating utility works • Allocating disabled parking spaces • Organising road markings and general road repairs • Providing permits (for scaffolding, skips, etc). 94 permits have been processed by the team since March 2012
What are the team’s key work priorities? • Inspection of roads and pavements • Coordinating road works through the Road Register • Defect repairs • Weather emergencies • Right First Time • Administer Capital and Revenue road repair budgets • NEP projects • Customer enquiries including accident and property damage claims • Process traffic orders • Large scale works on the road network:- New traffic signals at Milton Road junction and both Newcraighall Road junctions with A1.

Portobello and Craigmillar Community Plan Actions • Publicise Neighbourhood Environment Programme budget: Members of the public were asked for project nominations; and decisions were agreed by the Environment Forum in March 2012 • Nominations for 2013 projects: A bus tour took place in November 2012, to invite suggestions for 2013 projects. Nominations are invited at the end of this meeting • Receive updates on NEP projects progress: A written report of actions is provided at each meeting. • Encourage local reporting of roads & pavement issues through ‘Local Issues’ reporting form: the New Local Issues form is distributed at each meeting • Walking and cycling on the Promenade and Eastfield: markings are being installed at entrances to Portobello Prom, to advise that it is part of Core Path Network (open to pedestrian, cyclists, horse riders) • Identify and solve accident black spots. Examples include the Jewel to Asda rat-run: A mini workshop at the end of this meeting invites you to give us your thoughts on potential black spot areas in Ward 17.
Current Projects:Right First Time • Right First Time is an ongoing project to permanently repair defects on roads and pavements throughout the city • A repair squad is working within East Neighbourhood to repair defects up to 10m2 in size. If there are defects bigger than this, they will be identified and repaired at a later date • Recent locations in Ward 17 include Regent Street, Marlborough Street, Niddrie Mill, the Cleekim’s and Wisp Green. • Approximately £400k spent on this project in East Neighbourhood in 2012/ 2013
Recent Projects:Local Capital Funded Improvements Resurfacing works in:- • Lee Crescent • East Brighton Crescent
Craigmillar Castle Footway Link: • Form new footway linking cycling/walkway to castle car park • The East Roads Team is currently liaising with Historic Scotland, city archaeologist; and contractor • Proposed completion date: end of March 2013
Coillesdene Sheltered Housing • Upgrade areas of footways by resurfacing with hot rolled asphalt • Locations have been agreed with sheltered housing representative • Contractor planned to start 11 Feb 2013 • Proposed completion date: early March 2013 PHOTO
Niddrie House Park • New street lighting layout • Awaiting update from Street Lighting Team regarding lighting upgrade. • Negotiating with contractor regarding footway resurfacing • Proposed completion date: end of March 2013
Joppa Plaza • Improvements to band stand, drainage channels, surface and seating area • Environment Forum to decide which seating is to be installed from options provided by the Roads Team • Work is in progress. Tree grills now removed, channels have been cleaned out & tested • Proposed completion date: early March 2013 PHOTO
Bath Street • Installation of bollard • Project completed mid Feb 2013
Moffat Way • Upgrades to road signage and railings • Liaising with Road Safety/ Development Control. Design is currently in progress • Proposed completion date: beginning of March 2013
Niddrie Mains Road • Link footway and desire lines at the Hays • Order currently with ERS, start mid Feb 2013 • Proposed completion date: mid March 2013

Mini Workshop • Please help us by giving us your thoughts on how we can better publicise the NEP schemes • Identify potential accident black spots using the maps of Ward 17
