Do you think diamonds are made this way as well? Objective: Today we will research how rocks are formed.
Activity 19- Rock Formation • Purpose/Problem: • Vocabulary: • Sediments- Parts of rocks, shells, and dead organisms that have been worn down into small pieces. • Sedimentary Rocks-Rocks that are formed when sediments settle on top of each other and harden together. • Magma- Hot melted rock found deep inside the earth. • Igneous Rocks- Rocks that are formed from cooling magma. • Metamorphic Rocks- Rocks that have changed because of heat and/or pressure . • Procedure: • Complete Student Sheet 19.1 “Talking Drawing: Rock Formation” question 1 to prepare you for the reading. • Read the passage and complete Student Sheet 19.2 “Directed Reading Table: Rock Formation”. • Complete questions 2 and 3 on Student Sheet 19.1. • Analysis Questions: 1-6
