  2. COPY THIS KEY INFORMATION INTO YOUR BOOK. YOU WILL NEED THEM TO BE ABLE TO ACHIEVE LEVELS 5 AND 6. JE SUIS ALLÉ(E) = I WENT / I HAVE BEEN (THIS IS THE PAST TENSE) (THE “E” IN BRACKETS IS USED IF YOU ARE FEMININE) J’IRAI = I WILL GO JE VAIS ALLER = I AM GOING TO GO (THIS IS THE FUTURE TENSE) JE VOUDRAIS ALLER = I WOULD LIKE TO GO (THIS IS A TYPE OF FUTURE TENSE)

  3. WE CAN USE THESE PHRASES TO SAY WHERE WE HAVE BEEN, WHERE WE WILL GO, AND WHERE WE WOULD LIKE TO GO. LOOK AT THESE EXAMPLES… JE SUIS ALLÉ À MAIDSTONE = I WENT TO MAIDSTONE J’IRAI À MAIDSTONE = I WILL GO TO MAIDSTONE JE VAIS ALLER À MAIDSTONE = I AM GOING TO GO TO MAIDSTONE JE VOUDRAIS ALLER À MAIDSTONE = I WOULD LIKE TO GO TO MAIDSTONE THE NEXT SLIDES WILL SHOW US HOW TO USE THESE PHRASES WITH DIFFERENT COUNTRIES IN FRENCH.

  4. Write out the list of countries from the box below. What is the English version of each one? Can you match them to the countries on the map?

  5. Every country is either “masculine” or “feminine”. This is called the “gender”. Can you work out the gender of the countries from our list? What clues are there? Where else could you look to help? There are also some countries that are “plural”. Can you think of any countries that might be plural? Task: Find 5 more countries that are “masculine”, 5 that are “feminine”, and 2 that are “plural”.

  6. It is important to know the gender of a country, because the word for “to” is different for masculine and feminine countries. Look at these examples and copy them into your book.   8. READ THE TEXTS AND ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW. L’année dernière je suis allé en Espagne avec ma famille. L’année prochaine j’irai en Angleterre avec mes copains. Un jour je voudrais aller en Australie car ça serait incroyable. J’aime bien voyager. Je voudrais aller en Amérique. Cette année je vais aller en Grèce parce qu’il fait chaud. L’année dernière je suis allée au Portugal. C’était extra! PAUL ANNE Where would Paul like to go? Where will he go next year? Who will he go with? Where did he go last year? Who did he go with? 6.   9. Writing Write a short paragraph in French describing where you have been, where you would like to go and where you will go. Use the key phrases from this lesson and the texts in the previous slides to help. REMEMBER… LEVEL 5 = USING ANOTHER TENSE (PAST OR FUTURE) LEVEL 6 = USING 2 ADDITIONAL TENSES USE YOUR GRAMMAR KNOWLEDGE OF THE DIFFERENT TENSES TO USE MORE VERBS. EG, I VISITED, I SAW, I WOULD LIKE TO DO… ETC.
