Improving Labor Force Participation Question: • At program entry, what percentage of Jobs First clients report Transportation as a significant barrier to employment? • What percentage of this group utilized our Transportation-To-Work program to meet their employment goal? Answer: A. 80% B. 81%
Labor Force Expansion Issues Fact:Last year we recorded test scores at program entry for 1,300+ Jobs First and Out-Of-School Youth. Question: What percentage tested as “Basic Skills Deficient”(<8th Grade level reading/math)? Answer: 89%
Lifelong Learning Among Dislocated Workers(Excluding Electric Boat) Question: Among Eastern CT’s Dislocated Workers who are returning to the classroom for retraining, what percentage are over the age of 40? Answer: 65%
The Changing Worldof Training Fact: In the previous 2 years, EWIB has provided skill training/ upgrading assistance to 1,400+ workers using a mix of classroom & on-line formats. Question: What percentage learned on-line? Answer: 71%
Incumbent Worker Training Fact:In 2006-07 EWIB’s Incumbent Worker Training initiative upgraded the skills of 1,015 workers at 23 area employers. Question: What percentage of the employers were manufacturers? Answer: 74%
Looking Ahead Over the next few months, EWIB & its Committees will… • Seek to continue its successful Transportation-To-Work program by Pursuing this funding through DSS • Work with the region’s Council of Governments during the selection of new Elected Official members • Examine measures to counteract the negative workforce impact of basic skill deficiencies • Ensure the 08-09 programming mix matches current trends • Consider what level of re-programming is appropriate in light of documented demand for on-line offerings, incumbent worker availability, etc.
