Bringing together all parties with an interest in functional safety Identifying and removing obstacles to the profitable application of IEC 61508 and related standards Facilitating an improvement in the understanding of and competence in the use of IEC 61508 and related standards Working with CASS to ensure that the scheme meets the conformity assessment needs of the functional safety stakeholders How do we achieve our aims?
What are the benefits of joining the Association? • Working with others to improve the value of your investment relating to safety systems • Discussing with people from other parts of the supply chain how to deliver the benefits of a systematic approach to functional safety • Keeping abreast of developments in the functional safety field
Who are the members of the Association? • One of the strengths of the Association is the diversity of our membership • The member organizations include end users, system integrators and component suppliers as well as engineering consultants and certifiers • They are engaged in a range of sectors such as process, energy, transport and factory automation • The UK’s Health and Safety Executive and The CASS Scheme Ltd both participate as observers in the Association’s work
How does the Association work? • The policies and work plans of the Association are decided by the members in general meetings, held three times a year • Implementation of the plans is carried out by working groups set up by, and answerable to, the general meetings • A management committee is responsible for the day to day working of the Association • The costs of running the Association are shared between all members on an equal basis through an annual subscription
