  5. Deciduous: adj. shedding of leaves annually The deciduous trees turn glorious colors before the leaves fall each autumn.

  6. Ennui: n. dissatisfaction resulting from lack of interest

  7. Vacuous: adj. devoid of matter; empty/vacant Barbie is a vacuous character, she doesn’t have a single serious thought about anything.

  8. Assiduous: adj. showing great care and perseverance • He was assiduous in his practice habits with the violin. • An assiduous athlete is far more likely to put in the training necessary to get to the Olympics. • He was an assiduous worker, so he got a large raise.

  9. Juxtapose: v. to place together for contrasting effect The two pictures were juxtaposed with each other to prove that they were likely photos of the same place.

  10. Akimbo: v. limbs bent, most often hands on hips This lady is standing akimbo. Also, that is how my mom stands when she stares me down.

  11. Culpability: n. state of guilt or blame The rugrat’s culpability would surely be assumed.
