GISFI - Driving Indian Standardization for ICT

GISFI is a forum focusing on Indian indigenous requirements and contributing to Indian standards development. With strong relationships with academia and SDOs, GISFI is working towards 5G and has achieved significant milestones in the areas of future radio, security and privacy, green ICT, cloud and service oriented networks, and internet of things.

GISFI in a nutshell: • GISFI is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year: • Approved by Indian Government (DoT) • Contributing to Indian standards via TEC, TRAI, ... • Focuses on Indian indigenous requirements • Indian capacity building via Ph.D. programmes • Strong relationships with Indian academia • Relationships with SDOs(ITU-T, ARIB, ETSI, OMA, TIA, TTC, WWRF, ...) • GISFI has started to work on 5G GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis

Major Achievements • Future Radio Group is now working on 5G.Workshop on “India 5G Standardization”being held in New Delhi, India on 1st Sept’2014=> All GSC#18 bodies are invited to participate. • Security and Privacy Group has provided its outputs to TEC, DoT, TTSC and initiated work on Cyber Security • Green ICT Group has provided its outputs to TEC, DoT for their Recommendations on ‘Approach toward Green Telecoms’. Meetings with TRAI held as well. • Cloud and SON Group has provided its outputs toTRAI on“Emergency services” • Internet of Things Group has developed several use cases from which requirements and high level architecture are derived. Future Radio Network & 5G WG • GISFI kicked-off 5G activity during GSSM#12, December 2012, Bangalore, India • GISFI 5G concept is named as WISDOM • Wireless Innovative System for Dynamic Operating MegaCommunications (WISDOM) • is a communication system for ubiqitous trustworthy human-centric connectivity via an arbitrary infrastructure support • Activity is on-going • Gap and requirement analysis (TR) as well as • Solution development • Joint Sessions/Workshops were held with: • WWRF • ARIB/TTC • Workshop on “India 5G Standardization” being held in New Delhi, India on 1st Sept’2014=> All GSC#18 participants are welcome GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis

  8. Security and Privacy Working Group • Security testing study was done in the working group. Liaison Statement (LS) on activity was sent to 3GPP • Security testing related study was provided to TEC, DoT & TTSC • TR Requirements Study on Circular titled “10-15/2011-AS.III/(21) • TR Telecom Security Framework Proposal for India • TR Security in mobile communication systems; Comparison and proposals for India • TR Security Testing Methods for ICT products • TR Element Selection Guideline for Network Equipment Security Testing • TS Telecom Security Framework Proposal for India • TSes on Security Testing of GSM and GPRS • Joint activity on cyber security (PRACTICE project ) kicked-off during Japan – India Workshop (ARIB, TTC and GISFI), GSSM#14 • Workshop on security was organized during GSSM#16 GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis

  9. Green ICT Working Group • Developed energy efficiency measurement solution. LS on activity was sent to ATIS, ITU etc. • Provided input to TEC, DoT for “Implementations of directions issued by DOT on TRAI recommendations on ‘Approach toward Green Telecommunications’” • TR Metrics and Measurement Methods for Energy Efficiency: Radio Base Stations • TR Metrics and Measurement Methods for Energy Efficiency: IP Routers • TS Metrics and Measurement Methods for  Energy Efficiency: Classification of Telecommunication Equipment • TS Metrics and Measurement Methods for  Energy Efficiency: General Requirements • GISFI’s comments on ECR Document-Test procedure and measurement methodology • Technical Review of Global Standards on Energy Efficiency of IP Equipments • Approach towards Implementation of Green Telecom in India • Recommendation on priority of equipment to be considered for Green Passport activity • GISFI Contribution on TEC baseline Doc - IPRouter Energy GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis

  10. Cloud and Service Oriented Networks Working Group • Several activities are taking place in this working group including a proposal to have Proof-of-Concept (PoC) from India to ETSI NFV • Input on emergency services was provide to TRAI and to GSC report on the same topics • TR Technical Report on Emergency Telecom Services • TR Cloud and Service Oriented Networks Carrier Grade Cloud Computing • Cloud & SeON Framework, Gap Analysis and Architecture • Input to Draft Report of GSC task force on  emergency communications • Response Document to TRAI Consultation Paper on IECRS GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis

  11. Internet of Things Working Group • The working group has developed several use cases from which requirements are derived, available in several TRs • High level architecture is available as TS • Study is done on relation of various architectures including ETSI M2M and OneM2M • LS is sent to ITU • Input was provided to TEC, DoT GSC#18, 21-23 July, 2014Sophia Antipolis
