Clean Fossil Fuels • Technologies which convert coal, gas & oil to energy with reduced emissions of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Existing Plant • Low NOx burners fitted to all coal fired power stations to reduce any oxide of nitrogen emissions, which are associated with acid rain • All coal used at E.ON sites has a low sulphur content • Biomass co-firing projects currently running at all three coal fired stations in the UK. • Flue Gas Desulphurisation unit fitted at Ratcliffe-on-Soar which removes 90% of sulphur dioxide from the fumes
Areas of Research • Cleaner Coal Combustion - Plant efficiency improvements, advanced coal-fired supercritical boilers, fluidised bed combustion • Capture & Storage of Carbon Dioxide - pre & post combustion, capture of and transportation & long-term storage of CO2 • Innovative Technologies - Integrated gasification Combined cycle, fuel cells, advanced combined cycle gas turbines.
