  2. Geography and People • Demographics: • 80% Jews • 18% Arab • 2% Other • Most Arabs who live in Israel are Palestinian Climate: Mediterranean Desert climate in the South. Cold and wet in the mountains, dry in the desert regions.

Issues Today • Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories have some 3.5 million inhabitants—about 11 percent Jewish, 89 percent Palestinian. • A "final status" agreement, leading to a Palestinian state, has yet to be reached between Israel and the Palestinians. Problems to a final agreement include: Palestinians want their capital in Jerusalem. Israel claims that Jerusalem is its capital and that its status is not negotiable. Land promised has not been given to the Palestinians. More than 6000 people have died in conflict since 2007.
