  3. Session Objectives: Why? • Learn the basics about scholarships • Decide with your mentors which scholarships you want to fill out, start the scholarship search process • Scholarships are a great way to cover tuition outside of financial aid • Getting free money!

What are Scholarships? • “Free money” for college • Unlike loans, they do not have to be repaid to the sponsor • Some scholarships are awarded directly to the student; others to the college or university • Different kinds of scholarship sources: • Local groups and clubs • Charitable foundations • Businesses • Schools • Colleges • Government organizations

  5. Who Can Get Scholarships? • There are some special scholarships for types of students • Athletes • Students studying in a particular field • Students who are involved in community service • Students that live in particular cities and states • There are so many scholarships for all types of students
