Something I love… MAKEUP and Things!! Kayla Means
Most important things when it comes to wearing makeup? • Don’t care what other people might think on how much you wear or how little. • Wear colors that compliment your skin and eye color, think color wheel • Pick makeup based on skin type; such as oily, dry, or combination. • Take into account skin issues, like eczema, large pores, acne, hyperpigmentation, ect…
Let’s start with the basics… Always, always, always, MOISTURIZE your face, neck, and décolleté area. This allows makeup to grip on to something and helps makeup stay on longer and smooth problems areas such as acne Prime your face using a facial primer… Depending on your foundation, whether you are using an oil based or water based formulation, primers help keep foundation on longer. REMEMBER the rule-like vs like. Pick an oil based primer if you are using a oil based foundation and vice versa for water based.
Picking your foundation color… Rule of thumb-match to your chest or neck, not your cheek or inner hand. Reason-face is usually darker while neck and chest are less exposed to sunlight and usually paler. Remember you can always darken foundation to match better, you don’t want the dreaded foundation line on the jaw. Make sure you blend down the neck.
Skin Undertones Neutral skin tone is the mix between cool and warm.
Cream, Liquid, Powder? • If you are more dry/normal-stick to more cream or liquid foundation. This allows skin to stay hydrate while also staying on the skin • For oily- liquids and powders work best for you. Powders soak up that extra oil that your face produces. Just make sure you get an oil based foundation, remember like vs like! • Combination can pretty much go with anything!!!!
How much should you spend? • Remember- you want to work from a blank canvas, while less can be more. Here is some comparable foundations with drugstore and higher end prices.
What concealer does that foundation doesn’t.. Covers dark circles- use a salmon based concealor Covers hyperpigmentation, redness, sunspots… Covers mild to severe acne Covers anything foundation didn’t…
What kind? Under eyes are usually more dryer so pick a more emoillent formulation, like a cream based or stick. To brighten use a concealer one or two shades lighter than your skin tone and apply on just above the cheekbone area and just below the eye. Liquids or stick can accomplish this. For more problematic issues use a stick or thicker consistency since the skin is usually not as smooth and this will hold longer.
Suggestions for Concealers… • Fuller coverage for acne, sunspots, hyperpigmentation, ect.. • For under circles/brightening effects • A great stick concealor!
Powder like you just don’t care! Powder- this can make or break the way your makeup looks. Too much- you look older and dryer. Not enough- your skin looks very oily and wet. Use just in the T-zone, and use sparingly under eyes to set emollient concealers. Instead of brushing the powder on, use more of a pressing motion with brush or puff. This won’t shift your makeup and will lock it into place.
Bronze/Contour You always see those girls doing the kissy face on facebook? Use this to add a dark, matte color to contour your cheekbones and sides of your forehead and nose. This helps “slim” your face. Bronzer is important, especially if your face isn’t as dark as your chest is. Don’t try and formula to orange or it will be too noticeable. You can achieve a bronze-y look with a shimmer, matte, or cream formulation
