The Beck Depression Inventory The BDI did not develop from any particular theory, but was derived from clinical observations of symptoms and attitudes such as mood, lack of satisfaction and social withdrawal. A meta-analysis of studies involving the BDI over 25-years showed that the BDI has reasonable psychometric properties (Beck et al., 1988). © POSbase 2005
